Dr.Mohammed Al-Washahi (HOD- Engineering Dept) and Mr.Arun.S.Gopinath (Lecturer-Engineering Department) conducted a technical workshop on “Techno-Economic Assessment of Seawater Desalination Powered by Solar Energy Source” during the 2nd annual International Conference –Solar Oil Fields 2014 at Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Hotel, Muscat on 1st December,2014 . The workshop was attended by the pioneers from the solar energy and oil sector, including the European Renewable Energy Federation, PDO, Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), Saudi ARAMCO, PETROGAS, TVP Solar, and Target Exploration, among others.

Dr. Mohammed Al-Washahi presented a technical paper on “Modeling and Simulation of Combined Power and Thermal Desalination Energized by Parabolic Trough Solar Collector” during the conference.

Three student representatives from the Engineering Department, Sara Al-Ansari(Electrical), Mohammed Juma Saed Al-Mamari (Mechanical) and Moza Said Ali Al-Breiki (Civil Engineering)attended the conference. They benefitted by understanding the latest developments in Solar Energy Technologies, Desalination and the application of these technologies in the oil field.
